Washington, DC [US]: A commercial airliner operated by PSA Airlines for American Airlines collided with a military helicopter near Reagan National Airport on Wednesday night, leading to a devastating crash into the Potomac River.
According to WBAL TV, at least two bodies have been recovered from the water, while authorities continue search efforts for additional victims. The collision involved an American Airlines regional jet, operated by PSA Airlines, and a Sikorsky H-60 Army Blackhawk helicopter, both of which crashed near the airport. Emergency teams are working overnight to locate as many as 60 people potentially involved in the tragedy.
A CNN report confirmed that American Airlines Flight 5342, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, had departed from Wichita, Kansas. The Blackhawk helicopter, which had three soldiers on board, was operating from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, according to a US defense official.
