Washington [US], May 21 – Actor, producer, and director Michael B. Jordan has been named the 39th recipient of the prestigious American Cinematheque Award, as reported by Variety. The Creed III director and Sinners star will be honored at a tribute ceremony scheduled for November 20 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
“The career of Michael B. Jordan has been an unparalleled showcase for the combination of superb talent and purposeful vision that has made him a major power in today’s movie business,” said Rick Nicita, chair of the American Cinematheque board, in a statement announcing the honor.
Jordan rose to stardom with his breakthrough performance in Fruitvale Station, followed by iconic roles in Black Panther and the Creed franchise, the latter of which saw him make his directorial debut with Creed III.
“He has become a prolific producer with multiple projects across the industry, and his philanthropic efforts are both extensive and impactful,” Nicita added. “Most recently, his dual performances in the global hit Sinners have firmly established him among the top echelon of contemporary movie stars.”
This accolade adds to a growing list of honors for Jordan. In 2023, he was named a Time 100 honoree, received the Academy Museum Vanguard Award, and was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Reflecting on his career, Jordan said, “I’m not ignorant of the blessings and opportunities that I’m given. At the same time, I still feel like I have something to prove. I still feel like I want to make people proud. I want to make myself proud—so I’m constantly trying to raise the bar.”
The American Cinematheque Award is presented annually to an extraordinary artist in entertainment who is fully engaged in their work and is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion picture. Last year’s recipient was Jessica Chastain.
