Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya lauded his team’s smart bowling effort and Will Jacks’ all-round brilliance after securing a four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their IPL 2025 clash at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
Jacks played a key role, taking 2 wickets and scoring a quickfire 36 runs, which proved pivotal in helping MI chase down the 163-run target in 18.1 overs, registering their third win of the season.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Hardik Pandya applauded his bowlers’ discipline and execution:
“The way we bowled was very smart and spot on. We stuck to simple, basic plans. Certain balls were not easy to hit. Credit to the bowlers that we made them hit some good shots. We were kind of squeezing them.”
He also highlighted the impact of the surface early on in the match:
“The surface had a nice greenish look to it. The first couple of overs that Deepak (Chahar) bowled, a couple of balls got stuck in. We decided to use change-of-pace balls.”
Pandya was all praise for Will Jacks, who was named Player of the Match:
“He (Jacks) can be a gun fielder. Bowl those gun overs. Today it came off for him.”
Commenting on the run chase, he added:
“When we needed 42 off 42, we felt it was a tricky part, take it for a couple of overs and not get too excited. As soon as boundaries come, pressure gets off, that is why we pushed the pedal at the end.”
Match Summary:
- SRH Innings:
SRH, put in to bat first, started well with a 59-run partnership between Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28) and Travis Head (28 off 29). However, they couldn’t maintain a brisk scoring rate despite a solid contribution from Heinrich Klaasen (37 off 28). SRH ended with 162/5 in their 20 overs.

Though SRH fought back late in the innings, Tilak Varma (21 off 17)* and Mitchell Santner (0)* ensured the win with 11 balls to spare. - Bowling Highlights:
For SRH, Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36) bowled well, but the target wasn’t enough to defend.
