Mumbai Indians Cruise To Six-Wicket Win Over UP Warriorz In WPL 2025

Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their strong campaign in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, securing a convincing six-wicket victory over UP Warriorz (UPW) in Lucknow on Thursday. The win propelled MI to second place in the standings with eight points (4 wins, 2 losses), boosting their playoff chances.

UP Warriorz Innings: Kerr Spins a Web

After opting to bowl first, MI found themselves under early pressure as UPW openers Grace Harris (28 off 25) and Georgia Voll (55 off 33) put on a 74-run stand in just eight overs. However, Hayley Matthews provided the breakthrough, dismissing Harris.

The turning point came when Amelia Kerr unleashed a spin masterclass, dismantling UPW’s middle order. She finished with remarkable figures of 5/38, while Matthews (2/28) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (1/19) supported well.

Despite a late flourish from Sophie Ecclestone (16 off 9 balls), UPW could only post 150/9 in 20 overs.

MI’s Run Chase: Matthews Leads the Charge

Mumbai lost Amelia Kerr (10) early, but a 92-run partnership between Hayley Matthews (68 off 46) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (37 off 23) turned the game in MI’s favor. Matthews dominated with eight fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Grace Harris.

Although Harmanpreet Kaur (4) also fell cheaply, Amanjot Kaur (12) and Yastika Bhatia (10)** ensured MI reached the target with six wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.

Points Table Impact & Next Matches

This victory cements MI’s position as a top contender for the WPL 2025 playoffs, while UPW needs a turnaround to stay in the hunt.
