Patna (Bihar), June 8: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Sunday took a sharp dig at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, calling him the “meteorologist of defeat” following Gandhi’s claims of election rigging.
“Rahul Gandhi has now become a meteorologist of defeat, predicting his own loss,” Singh told, countering Gandhi’s recent statement alleging that the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections were “rigged” and warning that Bihar polls might face a similar fate.
Singh defended the NDA’s governance, highlighting infrastructure growth and welfare initiatives. “There is a road in every village, electricity, healthcare. People are with the NDA because the government is delivering on all fronts,” he asserted.
Rahul Gandhi, in an article shared on X, accused the BJP of “match-fixing” elections. He listed a five-step process allegedly used to manipulate results — from rigging the Election Commission’s appointment to adding fake voters and inflating turnout. He said the Maharashtra model could be replicated in Bihar and elsewhere where BJP is at risk of losing.
“Maharashtra was a blueprint for rigging democracy,” Gandhi posted, adding that fake voters and targeted bogus voting undermined democracy.
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won a landslide 235 seats in Maharashtra, while Congress managed only 16. The Election Commission had earlier clarified the vote aggregation process after Congress raised concerns.
Bihar, where elections are due in October–November 2025, is expected to witness a tough battle between the NDA (BJP-JD(U)) and the opposition Mahagathbandhan (RJD, Congress, Left). In 2020, the NDA had secured a majority with 125 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan won 110 in the 243-member assembly.
As the political temperature rises, accusations and counterattacks are setting the tone for a fiercely contested Bihar poll battle.
