Washington [US], July 1: Fashion’s most iconic editor is back in action as production has officially begun on The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Meryl Streep reprising her legendary role as the formidable Miranda Priestly.
Fans can also look forward to the return of Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, all set to reprise their beloved characters from the 2006 original. The hotly anticipated sequel, produced by Disney’s 20th Century Studios, is slated for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
Adding to the intrigue, Kenneth Branagh joins the cast as Miranda Priestly’s husband, a new dynamic that promises fresh drama in the high-stakes world of fashion publishing, according to Variety. The studio confirmed the news via an Instagram post captioned, “The Devil Wears Prada 2. Now in production.”
The first film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, followed aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she navigated the glamorous yet brutal world of fashion under Miranda’s icy command.
Nearly two decades later, the sequel sees Miranda facing the crumbling of the print magazine empire she once ruled. Emily Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, has climbed the corporate ladder and now holds a powerful position at a luxury conglomerate — one Miranda must court to secure advertising dollars for her struggling publication.
The shifting dynamics promise intense power plays, with alliances tested in the cutthroat world of modern media. Meanwhile, Andy Sachs’ current role in traditional journalism could offer a fresh perspective on the industry’s evolution, though details on her involvement remain under wraps.
The sequel brings back the original creative team, with David Frankel returning as director and Aline Brosh McKenna penning the script. Producer Karen Rosenfelt, who worked on the 2006 film, also rejoins the production.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 promises to deliver sharp wit, fierce fashion, and a timely exploration of the shifting landscape of media and power.
