Los Angeles [US]: The White Lotus star Meghann Fahy is set to headline the upcoming supernatural thriller Banquet, a chilling new project from acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, best known for his Netflix sensation The Platform.
As reported by Deadline, Fahy will portray Jenny Cochrane, a woman whose picture-perfect life is thrown into chaos by the unexpected return of her estranged son. His arrival unearths a terrifying secret buried in her bloodline, setting the stage for a haunting and suspense-filled narrative.
The film is based on an original screenplay by Sam Steiner (Fingernails) and is being produced by Lewis Taylor for Film Transmission and James Harris of Tea Shop Productions (Fall). Heavy-hitters David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Florian Zeller (The Father), and Federica Sainte-Rose are attached as executive producers under their respective banners.
Production is slated to begin in October in the UK, with XYZ Films handling distribution and financing.
Gaztelu-Urrutia rose to global prominence with The Platform, a dystopian psychological thriller that became a viral hit. The film garnered 56 million views in its first month on Netflix and earned critical acclaim at TIFF, Sitges, and the Goya Awards. Its sequel, The Platform 2, continued the success, dominating Netflix’s global top 10 for five consecutive weeks.
With Fahy’s rising star power and Gaztelu-Urrutia’s talent for crafting deeply unsettling, genre-defying narratives, Banquet promises to be a gripping entry into the supernatural thriller space.
