Paris: Daniil Medvedev, a former world number one, started his Paris Masters 2025 campaign with a bang on Tuesday, beating Spain’s Jaume Munar 6-1, 6-3 in a powerful display on the event’s new La Défense Arena center court.
The 2020 Paris Masters champion didn’t waste any time showing who was boss; he won the opening set in less than 30 minutes. Medvedev broke Munar twice in the first set and then won the second set with a decisive break in the sixth game. He served accurately and controlled the game from the baseline.
The 11th seed’s win put him in the second round, where he will face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov. This should be a great match between two experienced ATP stalwarts.
Auger-Aliassime Still Has a Chance at the ATP Finals
Earlier in the day, Canadian ninth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime came back from a set down to beat Francisco Comesana of Argentina 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3.
Auger-Aliassime is now placed ninth in the ATP Race to Turin. To get one of the last berths at the ATP Finals, he needs to make it to the late rounds of the Paris Masters. The 23-year-old showed that he could stay calm under pressure by coming back from a close first set to dominate the next two sets with his serve and forehand.
