Amid escalating violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has assured that all Indian citizens are safe, and the Indian Embassy in Kinshasa is in constant contact with the community.
Addressing a press briefing on Friday, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the embassy has issued several advisories and helpline numbers for assistance.
“The Indian Embassy in Kinshasa is closely monitoring the security situation. We have seen conflict in some cities, but as of now, all Indian citizens remain safe.”
Indians in Goma and Bukavu Advised to Move to Safer Locations
There are approximately 25,000 Indian citizens residing in the DRC, with around 1,000 in Goma—one of the most affected cities. Most of them have safely relocated following advisory warnings.
In light of the advancing M23 rebel movement towards Bukavu, located 200 km south of Goma, the Indian Embassy in Kinshasa has urged all Indians to leave for safer locations while commercial routes remain open.

Rwanda-Backed M23 Rebels Threaten Further Offensive
The situation in eastern DRC has intensified as Rwanda-backed M23 rebels continue their rapid advance. Despite UN Security Council warnings, the rebels claim to have taken control of Goma and are now moving towards Bukavu.
The M23 group, which has been active in the region for years, aims to push towards the DRC’s national capital, Kinshasa.
India’s Diplomatic Response
The Indian government continues to work diplomatically and logistically to ensure the safety of all Indian nationals in DRC. The embassy has advised citizens to remain vigilant and follow official guidance.
