MCD Executes ‘Bulldozer’ Action in Uttam Nagar; SC/ST Act Invoked in Holi Clash Case

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday launched a targeted demolition drive in East Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, razing illegal portions of a property belonging to an accused in the recent Holi murder case. The move comes amid heavy security and a growing public demand for a “zero-tolerance” approach to violent crime in the national capital.

Key Highlights of the Action

  • The “Yogi Model” Demand: Following the killing of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar, the victim’s family and local residents had explicitly demanded the “Yogi Adityanath model” of justice—referring to the use of bulldozers against the property of criminals.
  • Targeted Demolition: MCD officials clarified that the drive focused specifically on “unauthorized extensions” and illegal structures built over public drains. They noted that these encroachments obstructed water flow ahead of the monsoon season.
  • Security Blanket: To prevent any communal or civil unrest, the JJ Colony area was divided into zones and sectors, with significant deployment of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces during the operation.

The Case Background: A Tragic Conflict

The incident occurred on March 4 (Holi) when a minor girl’s water balloon accidentally splashed on a neighbor. What began as a trivial dispute escalated into a violent clash between two families who had lived as neighbors for 50 years.

  • Casualties & Charges: Tarun Kumar lost his life in the brawl. Police have since added murder charges and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act to the FIR.
  • Arrests: Seven individuals have been arrested so far, and one minor has been detained.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has condemned the act, stating that the Delhi government maintains a strict stance against such “heinous criminal and violent acts” to ensure public safety and communal harmony.
