LUCKNOW: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has made changes to its leadership, with party leader Mayawati naming her nephew, Akash Anand, as the new national convenor. This move comes barely four months after he apologized in public and was let back into the party. Party insiders say that the new position is the second most powerful in the party, right after Mayawati.
In a tweet on X (previously Twitter), Akash Anand thanked Mayawati and called her “respected sister.” He promised to work hard to move Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram’s movement forward with her help.
“I want to appreciate and show my deep appreciation to revered sister (Mayawati) for making me the National Coordinator (National Convenor) of the Bahujan Samaj Party. Anand added, “At the same time, I will work with all my heart and soul to move the movement of the most respected Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram forward, following the advice and guidance of respected sister.”
In Akash Anand’s political career, which has had many ups and downs, this promotion is the most recent event. He was kicked out of the party on March 3, 2025, after a tweet that caused a lot of trouble and conflicts inside the party, some of which concerned his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth. He apologized to the public on April 13 and was let back into the party. On May 19, he was named the party’s main national coordinator again.
People think the appointment is a smart move before the polls, especially in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. BSP UP state president Vishwanath Pal, who also thanked Anand, said that the party is already getting ready for the 2027 UP assembly elections under his and Mayawati’s leadership.
