Mayawati Announces BSP Will Contest 2027 UP Assembly Elections Alone

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Thursday announced that her party will contest all elections across the country independently, including the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, and asserted that the BSP would return to power in the state with a full majority.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow on the occasion of her 70th birthday, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister made it clear that the party would not enter into any alliance with other political formations.

“There should be no confusion about this. The Bahujan Samaj Party will contest the next Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh alone,” Mayawati said.

No Alliances, But Door Not Fully Shut

While firmly ruling out alliances for now, Mayawati said the BSP could reconsider its stance only if a potential partner demonstrated genuine vote-transfer capability, particularly among upper castes. However, she added that such a scenario would take years to materialise.

She claimed that public sentiment in Uttar Pradesh was once again shifting in favour of the BSP, recalling the party’s four previous terms in office, and said party workers were fully mobilised to form the BSP’s fifth government in the state.

Taking aim at the BJP, Congress and other “caste-based parties”, Mayawati said they would receive a “fitting reply” in the coming elections.

Outreach to Brahmins

In a significant political outreach, Mayawati addressed the Brahmin community, asserting that no injustice or oppression was allowed against it during BSP rule. She urged Brahmins not to be misled by the BJP, Congress or the Samajwadi Party.

“The Brahmin community does not want symbolic gestures or empty promises. What it seeks is dignity, fair representation, secure livelihoods and protection from injustice,” she said, adding that these aspirations were fulfilled only under BSP governments.

Referring to a recent meeting of Brahmin legislators in Lucknow, Mayawati said concerns raised by BJP, Congress and Samajwadi Party Brahmin MLAs over alleged neglect under the current BJP government were “natural”.

She emphasised that the BSP had always ensured balanced representation for Brahmins, just as it had for Dalits, backward classes, minorities and other sections of society.

Claims on Law and Order, Communal Harmony

Mayawati alleged that law and order under the current BJP government is no better than during the Samajwadi Party rule, and claimed people were distressed under both regimes.

She also asserted that no communal riots occurred during BSP rule, no religious places of any faith were harmed, and injustice against Muslims and other minorities was not tolerated.

“All sections, including Yadavs, Dalits, backward classes and religious minorities, were taken care of under BSP governments,” she said.

Allegations Over EVMs

The BSP chief raised concerns over electronic voting machines (EVMs), alleging manipulation and dishonesty in past elections. She said opposition to EVMs was growing nationwide, but reiterated that the BSP would continue to contest elections with full strength across the country.

Tribute to Kanshi Ram, Dalit Icons

Mayawati accused previous governments of neglecting BSP founder Kanshi Ram, claiming national mourning was not declared after his death. She reiterated her commitment to Dalit rights.

“I will neither bow down nor be intimidated. I will continue to fulfil the responsibility given to me by Kanshi Ram,” she said.

She highlighted that BSP governments honoured leaders such as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Narayana Guru and Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj by installing statues and developing memorials, and alleged a conspiracy to weaken the BSP.

Infrastructure Claims

Mayawati also claimed that the blueprint for major infrastructure projects in Uttar Pradesh — including expressways and the upcoming airport in Gautam Buddh Nagar near Delhi — was prepared during BSP rule.

“These projects would have been completed during our tenure, but the then Congress-led central government did not cooperate,” she alleged.

Focus on Farmers and Other Communities

She said BSP governments worked for the welfare of Kshatriya and Vaishya communities and paid special attention to farmers, particularly the Jat community, by ensuring timely agricultural inputs and better prices for crops, especially sugarcane.

“In such circumstances, the people of Uttar Pradesh are once again recalling the BSP’s four terms in power and have made up their mind to bring the party back,” Mayawati said.
