Matt Reeves Weighs In On Robert Pattinson’s Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe

Washington [USA], January 8 : Director Matt Reeves has shared his thoughts on the possibility of Robert Pattinson’s Batman entering James Gunn’s new DC Universe, stating that it would depend on whether it “makes sense.” Reeves, who directed The Batman (2022), added that while the sequel is set to begin filming this year, he is focused on telling the story he initially set out to create.

In a recent podcast interview at the Golden Globes, Reeves commented, “It really comes down to whether it makes sense. There was a story I wanted to tell—the epic crime saga. It’s been important to me to play that out, and James and Peter have been really great about that. They are letting us do that. What the future brings, I can’t really tell you. I have no idea. My head is down right now on getting The Batman Part II shooting, which is the most important thing.”

When asked about the potential for Pattinson’s Batman to cross over into Gunn’s DC Universe, Reeves added, “I don’t know, we will have to see where that goes.”

In recent news, Warner Bros. announced a delay in the release of The Batman 2, which has been pushed back by a year to October 1, 2027. The announcement sparked disappointment among fans, but James Gunn defended the delay, citing the common practice of extended gaps between movie sequels. “To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” Gunn tweeted, pointing to notable examples such as the 7-year gap between Alien and Aliens, 13 years between Avatar films, and 36 years between Top Gun movies.

Deadline reports that Gunn confirmed the delay was related to the script’s development. He explained, “The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script. Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting, and post-production on big films.”

The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, was a major success, grossing approximately USD 369.3 million domestically and USD 772 million internationally at the box office.
