Washington DC [US], July 1: Director Matt Reeves and writer Mattson Tomlin have officially completed the script for The Batman: Part II, more than three years after Robert Pattinson’s first outing as the Dark Knight hit theaters, Deadline reported.
The pair took to Instagram to share a blurred black-and-white photo of the completed script, featuring a bat logo and what appears to be the title The Batman: Part II. Reeves captioned the post, co-shared with Tomlin, “Partners in Crime (Fighters),” a playful nod to Batman’s classic sidekick, Robin, who did not appear in the first film.
The sequel was first announced in April 2022, shortly after the success of The Batman, which premiered on March 4, 2022. The original film starred Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot (Penguin), Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle (Catwoman), Jeffrey Wright as Lt. James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.
The script’s completion arrives just ahead of the launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Superman, which will mark the beginning of the new DC Universe. Addressing fans’ impatience over delays, Gunn urged them to let Reeves work at his own pace.
“People should get off Matt’s back. Let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs. He doesn’t owe you something because you liked his movie,” Gunn told Entertainment Weekly.
According to Deadline, The Batman: Part II is slated to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Reeves’ first film was a massive success, grossing $369.3 million domestically and $772 million worldwide at the box office.
