Washington [US], June 1: Netflix has officially announced the release date for The RIP, the highly anticipated crime thriller starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The film, directed and written by Joe Carnahan, will premiere on January 16, 2026.
According to Deadline, The RIP centers around a group of Miami cops whose loyalty begins to unravel after they stumble upon millions of dollars in cash inside an abandoned stash house. As word spreads about the massive discovery, external pressures mount, and the line between ally and enemy begins to blur.
The ensemble cast includes Steven Yeun, Kyle Chandler, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Sasha Calle, adding further weight to the film’s buzz.
A sneak peek of the film was revealed during a closed-door presentation, ramping up anticipation, though it was not made publicly available.
The RIP is being produced under the Artists Equity banner — the production company co-founded by Affleck and Damon. The duo has a long history of collaboration, from their early days in Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) to co-writing and starring in Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel (2021). More recently, they produced and appeared in the biographical drama Air, directed by Affleck.
Artists Equity, known for its model of including profit participation for cast and crew, has rapidly built a robust slate of films. Recent projects include Small Things Like These starring Cillian Murphy (debuted at the Berlin Film Festival), Unstoppable with Jennifer Lopez, and a sequel to The Accountant, which premiered on Amazon MGM.
With The RIP, Netflix adds another heavyweight title to its 2026 lineup, and fans of the Damon-Affleck duo have a gripping thriller to look forward to.
