Massive Crowds Gather at Triveni Sangam for Mauni Amavasya Snan in Mahakumbh

Over 80 million devotees expected at Prayagraj ghats as Akharas perform ceremonial rituals for the auspicious occasion.

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), January 29: The ghats of Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj were inundated with devotees early Wednesday morning, as millions gathered for a holy dip on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya during Mahakumbh. Authorities anticipate a turnout of over 80 to 100 million people for the sacred ritual.

Crowds Gather at Sangam

Visuals from Kali Marg, Sangam Ghat, and the Jhusi area showcased a sea of people lined up at the ghats, waiting behind barricades for their chance to partake in the ceremonial dip.

Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand, overseeing Mahakumbh arrangements, released a detailed schedule for the Mauni Amavasya snan following consultations with various Akharas.

Scheduled Rituals by Akharas

The ceremonial bathing commenced as early as 4:00 AM, with Sanyasi Akharas leading the procession to the ghat. Each Akhara was allotted specific durations for their rituals:

  • Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara began their journey at 4:00 AM, arriving at the ghat by 5:00 AM. Their ritual lasted for 40 minutes, with departure scheduled at 5:40 AM and return to their camps by 6:40 AM.
  • Taponidhi Panchayati Niranjani Akhara and Panchayati Akhara Anand left their camps at 4:50 AM, reaching the ghat at 5:50 AM. They completed their snan at 6:30 AM and were back at their camps by 7:30 AM.

The Uttar Pradesh government’s statement detailed the meticulous planning to ensure a smooth flow of devotees and Akharas throughout the day.

Upcoming Key Bathing Dates

The Mahakumbh schedule includes several other significant dates for holy dips:

  • Basant Panchami (Third Shahi Snan): February 3
  • Maghi Purnima: February 12
  • Maha Shivaratri: February 26

The Mahakumbh continues to draw millions from across the nation, underscoring the significance of these ancient rituals in India’s cultural and spiritual tapestry.
