Mass Shooting At Lincoln University On Homecoming Weekend, Active Investigation Launched

A mass shooting erupted on the Pennsylvania campus of Lincoln University on Saturday night, disrupting Homecoming weekend celebrations and leaving multiple individuals with gunshot wounds. Law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene, though no suspects have been taken into custody yet.

The incident was reported around 9 p.m. Saturday (local time) near the university’s football field, where students and attendees were gathered for the traditional Homecoming festivities, which reportedly included a tailgate and yardfest event.

Multiple Victims, No Fatalities Confirmed

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office, which is actively investigating the incident, confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that law enforcement was aware of a shooting with “multiple victims” and urged the public to avoid the area.

While initial reports cited by Fox 29, citing the Oxford Borough Police Department, stated that at least four people had been shot and transported to a local hospital, other news reports indicated a higher figure. CBS News and another local report mentioned that seven people sustained gunshot wounds and two others suffered related medical conditions. Crucially, as of early Sunday morning, officials have not yet confirmed any fatalities in the incident.

Active Shooter Alert Called Off

The active shooter alert that was initially raised was later called off, and police confirmed there was no longer an immediate threat to the campus. However, law enforcement has blocked off roads around the campus as the investigation continues. A witness told CBS News Philadelphia that they saw one person receiving CPR at the scene.

Governor Offers Support

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was briefed on the shooting and took to X to express his concern, urging the community to cooperate with authorities. “I’ve been briefed on the shooting at Lincoln University tonight, and my Administration has offered our full support to President Allen and local law enforcement. Please avoid the area, continue to follow the guidance of local law enforcement, and join Lori and me in praying for the Lincoln University community,” the Governor wrote.

Lincoln University announced on its social media channels that counseling services would be made available to students and staff starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday (local time) to provide support in the wake of the traumatic event.

More details on the motive behind the shooting and the condition of the victims are still awaited as the investigation remains active.
