Washington DC [US]: Marvel fans will have to wait a little longer for the next Avengers saga, as Marvel Studios has officially delayed the release dates for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, according to Variety.
Initially slated for May 1, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday will now release on December 18, 2026. Consequently, Avengers: Secret Wars has also been postponed, moving from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.
Disney confirmed the delays on Thursday as part of a broader restructuring of its theatrical release calendar. Alongside the Avengers updates, several previously scheduled “Untitled Marvel” projects were either removed or repurposed for other Disney features. These include the erasure of a February 13, 2026 slot and the rebranding of November 2026 and November 2027 Marvel dates as “Untitled Disney” films.
With the new lineup, only Avengers: Doomsday and Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day are confirmed Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) titles set to hit theatres in 2026. This reshuffling also results in a lengthy gap in Marvel content, with no theatrical MCU releases scheduled between The Fantastic 4: First Steps (July 25, 2025) and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 (July 31, 2026).
Despite the delays, excitement remains high. Doomsday and Secret Wars are expected to be massive, universe-spanning productions. Notably, Doomsday is set to mark Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU, reportedly playing Doctor Doom, alongside appearances from characters and teams such as Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and even a return of X-Men legends Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
Production for Doomsday is gaining momentum, with Downey recently sharing behind-the-scenes photos alongside fellow cast members during a group outing to watch Thunderbolts in support of the Marvel family.
