Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 26: In a major boost ahead of its Cannes 2025 premiere, legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese has joined Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming film Homeboun as an executive producer. The film, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, will be screened in the prestigious ‘Un Certain Regard’ section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is one of the producers, announced the news on Instagram. “Homebound is an extraordinary confluence of talent, vision, and storytelling at its finest,” he wrote. “Having Martin Scorsese, a true legend of cinema, lend his wisdom and support to Neeraj’s remarkable vision elevates our film to a rare artistic height.”
In an official statement, Scorsese shared his admiration for Ghaywan’s work: “I have seen Neeraj’s first film Masaan in 2015 and I loved it, so when Melita Toscan du Plantier sent me the project of his second film, I was curious. I loved the story, the culture, and was willing to help. Neeraj has made a beautifully crafted film that’s a significant contribution to Indian Cinema. I am glad the movie is an official selection at Un Certain Regard in Cannes this year.”
Homebound marks a significant return for Ghaywan, whose debut film Masaan also premiered in the same category at Cannes and earned widespread acclaim and awards in 2015.
The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier serving as co-producers.
