US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a figure who was once one of President Donald Trump’s most prominent and vocal allies, has announced her resignation from the House of Representatives.
The decision comes following a major public fallout with President Trump, primarily stemming from disagreements over the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and other various issues.
Reason for Resignation
In her public announcement, Greene stated that her final day in office will be January 5, 2026. She indicated that the conflict with the President stemmed from her position on the Epstein case, where she claims she was defending victims.
“I will be resigning from office with my last day being January 5, 2026,” Greene stated. She went on to say she was “called a traitor” for standing up for women who were “raped” and “trafficked” by “rich powerful men.”
Greene specifically addressed the President’s condemnation of her stance:
“Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked and used by rich powerful men should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for,” she said.
The Fallout with Trump
The former allyship between Greene and Trump deteriorated significantly over the issue. President Trump publicly retaliated against Greene, calling her a “traitor” and “wacky,” and vowing that he would endorse a challenger to oppose her when she ran for reelection.
Greene, who quickly shifted from a fervent supporter to a critic of the President, also reflected on her difficult tenure in Washington, D.C., stating in an online video that she had always been “despised in Washington, D.C., and just never fit in.”
