Washington [US], July 3: Rising star Marisa Abela has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of the 1980s cult classic Highlander, where she will star alongside Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe.
The new Highlander film is being directed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick) and will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, Variety reported. The film is expected to receive a wide theatrical release.
Abela, best known for her acclaimed performance in the series Industry, will take on a significant role in the story, which follows immortal warriors locked in an epic battle for supremacy. While details about her character remain under wraps, the casting signals a fresh and exciting take on the beloved franchise.
Cavill and Crowe’s involvement was previously confirmed, and the script is penned by Michael Finch, known for John Wick: Chapter 4. United Artists has secured full rights to the original 1986 film, opening doors for potential sequels or even a new series.
The film’s production team includes Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, and Neal H. Moritz, among others, bringing together seasoned producers with a track record of major blockbusters.
Abela, who recently took home a 2025 BAFTA TV Award for her work in Industry and earned a BAFTA EE Rising Star Award nomination, has also appeared in Back to Black and Black Bag, further establishing herself as one of the most promising young actors in the industry.
