Washington [US], December 14: The highly anticipated film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s gothic novel Wuthering Heights has been given an official release date: February 13, 2026, just ahead of Valentine’s Day. Directed, written, and produced by Emerald Fennell—known for her Oscar-winning film Promising Young Woman and the hit Saltburn—the movie stars Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, bringing the intense, tragic love story to life.
Fennell, who has long been captivated by the gothic genre, brings a contemporary touch to Brontë’s classic tale of obsession and heartbreak. She has spoken of her fascination with the genre, where horror, desire, and violence are intertwined. In particular, her influences range from Brontë’s work to writers like Daphne du Maurier and Angela Carter, who explore disturbing eroticism and complex emotions.
The film also features performances from Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, and Shazad Latif. It is financed by MRC, the studio behind Saltburn and American Fiction, marking another collaboration between Fennell and Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, after their successful partnership on Saltburn.
While specific plot details are being kept under wraps, the original Wuthering Heights centers on the destructive and obsessive relationship between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, set against the rugged backdrop of the Yorkshire moors. The story explores themes of love, revenge, class, and the supernatural.
Pre-production for Wuthering Heights is underway, with filming set to take place in the UK in 2025.
