Maren Ade To Lead Short Films And La Cinef Jury At 78th Cannes Film Festival

Washington DC [US]: German director and screenwriter Maren Ade will serve as the President of the Short Films and La Cinef Jury at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, as reported by Variety. Ade, best known for her work on the critically acclaimed film ‘Toni Erdmann’, will be joined by a distinguished panel of jury members.

The jury will include American director-producer Reinaldo Marcus Green, French multi-hyphenate Camelia Jordana, Spanish industry veteran Jose Maria Prado, and Croatian filmmaker Nebojsa Slijepcevic. The group will evaluate 11 short films competing for the Short Film Palme d’Or and 16 student films vying for the La Cinef prizes.

This year’s Short Film Competition has emerged from an impressive 4,781 submissions. It includes nine fiction and two animated shorts, with five of these films being directed by female filmmakers.

The Short Film Palme d’Or will be awarded at the festival’s closing ceremony on May 24, while the La Cinef winners will be announced during a dedicated ceremony at the Bunuel Theatre on May 22, followed by screenings of the winning films, as reported by Variety.

Additionally, in celebration of the Cannes Film Festival, filmmaker Payal Kapadia was honored by the French government earlier this week in Mumbai for her exceptional contributions to film and strengthening cultural ties between France and India.

Kapadia, the Mumbai-based director, was presented with the prestigious Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters) award on Wednesday. The Consul General of France awarded her during a ceremony held at the French residence in Mumbai’s upscale Peddar Road area.
