New Delhi [India], December 27: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed his grief over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday. Speaking to reporters, Yadav described Singh as a Prime Minister who will always be remembered as a good leader for the country.
Yadav praised Singh’s economic contributions, noting that although he spoke little, his decisions significantly strengthened India’s economy. “Dr. Manmohan Singh was a Prime Minister who contributed greatly to strengthening the country economically. Many of the developments we see today are the result of his decisions. Thanks to his economic policies, India is now on equal footing with the world. His decisions have shown us the importance of careful planning and foresight. He will always be remembered as a good PM of the country,” Yadav said.
Businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, also expressed his sorrow at Singh’s passing. He described the former Prime Minister as a humble and authentic leader who made a lasting difference to the country.
“He was very humble, a PM who made all the difference. I had the privilege of interacting with him and found him to be grounded and real, unlike what we see today. He was about substance, not optics. His leadership and knowledge of the economy helped the country prosper,” Vadra said.
Vadra extended his condolences to Singh’s family, emphasizing that his vision and contributions would continue to inspire future generations, especially within the Congress party. “My deepest condolences to his family. Many in the Congress have learned from Dr. Manmohan Singh, and his dreams will live on,” he added.
Manmohan Singh passed away at AIIMS in Delhi on Thursday evening at the age of 92 due to age-related medical conditions. He had suffered a sudden loss of consciousness at home and was rushed to the hospital.
The mortal remains of the former PM will be kept at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi for public viewing. A ‘last darshan’ will be held on Saturday morning between 8:00 and 10:00 AM, after which party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, will pay tribute to him. Following the ceremony, his last rites will be conducted near Rajghat, where the final rites of Prime Ministers are performed.
Singh, widely known for his role in introducing the 1991 economic liberalisation reforms as Finance Minister, will be remembered as one of India’s most influential political figures.
