Manish Malhotra Reminisces About His First Filmfare Win For ‘Rangeela’ In 1995

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Celebrated fashion designer Manish Malhotra took a nostalgic trip down memory lane as he recalled winning his very first Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design in 1995 for the iconic film Rangeela, starring Urmila Matondkar.

On Saturday, Manish shared a heartfelt post on Instagram featuring a black-and-white throwback photo of himself proudly holding the Filmfare trophy. He also included a vintage video clip showing the announcement of the award, followed by veteran actress Rekha presenting the trophy to him on stage.

The third slide in his Instagram post contained a reflective note:
“My first Filmfare came with Rangeela, the same year they decided to introduce the Best Costume Design category. It felt like the industry was finally beginning to see costume not just as clothing, but as storytelling.”

Alongside the post, he added a nostalgic caption:
“The first-ever Filmfare Award (@filmfare) for Costume Design. It feels so nostalgic…”

With a career spanning over three decades, Manish Malhotra has been the creative force behind the costumes of numerous blockbuster Bollywood films, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.

In addition to his celebrated work in fashion and cinema, Manish expanded into film production. In September 2023, he launched his production company, Stage 5 Productions, under which he has produced several projects such as Bun Tikki, Train from Chhapraula, and Ul Jalool Ishq.
