The Padma Awards, established in 1954, are one of India’s highest civilian honours. They are presented annually to individuals who have made exceptional contributions in various fields of public service. The awards are categorized into three levels: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional service), Padma Bhushan (for distinguished service of a higher order), and Padma Shri (for distinguished service).
The Padma Awards are conferred based on recommendations from the Padma Awards Committee, which is led by the Cabinet Secretary and includes other eminent members. These recommendations are then approved by the President of India.
Other notable recipients of the Padma Shri this year include renowned sculptor Adwaita Charan Gadanayak, calligraphy artist Achyut Ramchandra Palav, Bollywood singer Arijit Singh, and comedian Ashok Laxman Saraf, among others.
