Imphal — The situation in Manipur remains tense but under control, as police and security forces continue to carry out intensive search operations across the state’s vulnerable districts, particularly in the hills and valleys.
On April 26, the Manipur Police successfully defused six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) found in the T Minou village under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The devices posed a significant threat but were neutralized by the police bomb disposal team.
In related operations, two active members of the KCP (Noyon), a banned insurgent group, were arrested. The suspects, Shagolshem Lemba Meitei (43) and Shagolshem Romen Meitei (40), both from Imphal East district, were found with critical items, including a four-wheeler, two mobile phones, and wallets. This operation is part of the broader crackdown on insurgent groups in the region.
Additionally, in another operation on April 26, seven vehicles were recovered, believed to have been either stolen or snatched by anti-social elements. Security forces also removed tinted glasses from 207 vehicles, aiming to enhance security measures.
On April 25, authorities searched a residence in Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi Darul Uloom Makha under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal District, where they seized 3.9 kg of brown sugar, suspected heroin, and Codeine bottles. This operation underscores the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the region.
To ensure the uninterrupted movement of essential goods, 299 vehicles were monitored along National Highway-2 (NH-2), with 107 checkpoints set up across various districts.
The Manipur Police issued a public appeal to avoid spreading rumours and fake news. Citizens were advised to verify information through the Central Control Room’s rumour-free number (9233522822). Police warned of legal consequences for anyone found spreading fake posts on social media. The authorities also urged citizens to return any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to the respective authorities immediately.
