A shocking incident from eastern China has gotten a lot of attention on social media. A guy is said to have spent all of his 10 million yuan ($1.4 million) lottery winnings on a female live-streamer and gaming, leaving his wife with nothing.
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) says that the issue came to light when the wife, who was only known by her last name Yuan, told her story to Henan TV in mid-October, after she decided to get a divorce.
From Jackpot Joy to a Sudden Betrayal
The couple lived in Dezhou, Shandong province, and had been married since 2016. On December 17 of last year, the husband won a lottery win worth 10.17 million yuan, which seemed to make their life better. The total prize money, after taxes, was 8.14 million yuan.
Yuan remembered that her husband was quite happy at first. He told her she could buy everything she wanted with their new money. He gave her a bank card to help her handle her money and said it had three million yuan on it for joint costs. Yuan put the card in a drawer without checking the amount because she trusted her husband entirely.
But just after the triumph, the husband’s behavior altered a lot. Yuan saw that he stopped giving her money and instead spent his days gambling and staying up late to watch female live-streamers online. He often gave tips to various hostesses, and one of them got an amazing 1.2 million yuan (£130,000).
Caught with the empty accounts and the live-streamer
In July, Yuan’s last straw came when she saw her husband at a train station while he was on a four-day journey with the same live-streamer.
Yuan was able to get chat logs that showed how close they were, including exchanges in which her husband called the lady “honey” and himself “hubby.” The husband asked the hostess, “What kind of old man do you like?” in a rather rude way. What about an old man with a lot of money, like me?
When Yuan eventually examined the bank card her husband had given her months ago, she found that the account was absolutely empty, which made her feel even more betrayed.
Yuan confronted her husband and asked him about his conscience, adding, “You have not treated me fairly.” I have done a lot for our family. She said, “Before he won this lottery prize, I thought about living with him for the rest of my life.” But he turned on me right away. He once said he wanted to locate a live-streamer to have a baby for him. I sincerely wish he hadn’t won the lotto.
When the media asked him about it, the spouse gave a blunt final answer: “I have spent all the money.” She has now filed for divorce against me. “Let the court make all the decisions.”
