Abhilash Pillai wrote the script, while Vishnu Sasi Shankar directed the film. Sumathi Valavu is a movie version of a well-known Kerala folktale about a haunted curve in the road. According to the story, a pregnant woman named Sumathi was killed there in the 1950s, and since then, her ghost has been known to haunt the area, causing many strange things to happen. The movie is a blend of scary horror and funny comedy, and it takes place in the 1990s.
