Kochi (Kerala) [India]: Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested on Saturday and later taken to General Hospital for a medical examination in connection with alleged drug use, according to an official statement from the Kochi City North Police.
The arrest follows an incident in which Shine reportedly fled from a hotel room in Kochi during a police raid. Although police had earlier announced that the actor would appear before them at 10:30 am, Shine arrived at the Ernakulam North Police Station at 10 am, accompanied by his legal team.
Police stated that the actor appeared in response to a notice demanding an explanation for his attempt to evade the raid.
The case has taken on greater significance following a formal complaint filed by actress Vincy Aloshious accusing Shine of inappropriate behavior and substance abuse on the set of their upcoming film Suthravakyam.
BJP leader Nivedita Subramanian criticized the Kerala government for its silence on rising cases of abuse against women in the state’s film industry. “There have been many issues, such as the casting couch, but the ruling party is silent. They are blind to the atrocities happening to women,” she told ANI.
Vincy Aloshious, known for her roles in Rekha, Vikruthi, and Jana Gana Mana, shared her experience in a viral Instagram video, explaining why she would no longer work with individuals who use drugs. She detailed incidents on set that made her feel unsafe, including Shine allegedly offering to “help with a wardrobe malfunction” in front of the entire crew and using a suspicious white powder during rehearsals.
She claimed the production team was aware of the situation, and though the director addressed it, filming continued due to Shine’s central role in the film.
The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce has confirmed that it is now reviewing the complaint filed by Vincy.
