Purulia (West Bengal) [India]: Union Minister of State for Education and BJP West Bengal President Sukanta Majumdar attended the funeral procession of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Manish Raman Mishra, who lost his life in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir earlier this week.
Speaking to media, Majumdar said the central government is treating the attack with utmost seriousness, emphasizing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken firm measures in response to the incident.
“The Indus Waters Treaty has been suspended, visas have been cancelled, and Pakistani officials have been asked to leave within 48 hours,” he said. “Whoever is behind this heinous act will be brought to justice. Have faith in PM Modi and our government — we are not afraid of Pakistan.”
Majumdar also made a call for national unity, urging political parties to put aside differences and stand together in times of national crisis.
“I met the family members of the martyr. People are hurt and angry. We must unite and work for the country,” he added, also referencing a recent communal incident in Murshidabad as a concerning trend aimed at disturbing peace.
PM Modi on National Resilience and Justice
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Madhubani, Bihar, extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, including tourists from across India.
“Some lost sons, others brothers, or life partners. The victims represented India’s diversity—speaking Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Odia, Gujarati, and more,” PM Modi said.
He pledged swift and unimaginable punishment for those responsible and reiterated India’s resolve to eliminate terrorism at its roots.
“The willpower of 140 crore Indians will now break the backbone of terrorism. India will track and punish every terrorist and their backers—no matter where they are,” he declared.
PM Modi also thanked world leaders and citizens who have extended support, reaffirming that India will not bow to terror.
India’s Firm Diplomatic Stand Against Pakistan
Following the attack, India took significant diplomatic steps:
- Suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.
- Closed the integrated Attari Check Post.
- Declared Pakistani High Commission officials persona non grata.
- Revoked all SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) privileges.
- Suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals.
- Revoked all valid visas issued to Pakistani nationals, effective April 27, 2025.
These actions underline India’s zero-tolerance policy against cross-border terrorism, signaling a clear shift in its geopolitical posture.
