Patna, October 14 – Popular folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a “Milan Samaroh” in Patna. This was a big step into Bihar politics just weeks before the important Assembly Election in 2025.
The 25-year-old singer, who has a huge following on social media for her versions of Maithili folk songs, said that her decision was based on a strong sense of inspiration and a desire to serve the public, not on her own political ambitions.
“I think extremely highly of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. “Because they inspire me, I’m here to help them,” Thakur said after officially joining the party.
She made her point clearer by stressing her focus on service: “I don’t think that joining a political party makes you a politician; I’m here to serve society and spread their ideas to everyone.”
A Daughter of Mithila Steps Up to Help
Thakur closely identified with her cultural background and called herself the “daughter of Mithila,” saying, “I am the daughter of Mithila, my soul lives in Mithila.” Her family village is in the Benipatti block of the Madhubani district, which is a place she feels very close to.
Thakur said that PM Modi is her favorite politician and that his messages have inspired her for a long time. “I’ve been listening to his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and live speeches for years, and they always inspired me,” she remarked.
Two days after a big meeting with key BJP leaders, including national general secretary Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Nityanand Rai, she joined the party. This confirmed months of speculation about her entry into politics.
Ready to run for the Bihar Assembly Election
When asked about her involvement in the next elections, Maithili Thakur said she was completely devoted to the party leadership. “I am here to help the party; they will know what they want me to do.” She said, “I’ll do whatever the party tells me to do.”
The singer said she would be willing to run for office if asked, even if her main focus is on service. “I am ready for it,” she told news stations. “It would be an entirely different journey for me.”
When asked about his preferred seat, Thakur said he had a strong emotional connection to both Madhubani and Darbhanga districts. He said, “My grandmother’s village is in Madhubani and my maternal grandmother’s village is in Darbhanga.” People from both places adore me the same. But in the end, it will be up to the party.
Insiders say that the BJP may be thinking about running her for either the Benipatti or Alinagar Assembly seat, but there has been no official word yet.
Thakur became famous across the country after he came in second on the TV reality show “The Rising Star” in 2017. He is one of the most popular artists in the area, having millions of followers on Instagram and YouTube. Her popularity with a wide range of people is likely to help the party reach more people, notably young people and cultural voters in the Mithilanchal region.
