Mumbai: Building on its momentum from the 2024 assembly elections, the Mahayuti alliance has claimed a resounding victory in the Maharashtra Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad elections held on Sunday. The ruling coalition, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dominated the polls across 286 seats, signaling a strong mandate ahead of the upcoming municipal corporation elections.
The Numbers: A Decisive Mandate
According to trends and results shared for 263 seats, the Mahayuti alliance secured a staggering total of 214 wins, leaving the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) with just 49 seats. The BJP solidified its position as the dominant political force in the state, winning 118 seats on its own.

National Leaders Hail Victory
Union Ministers Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari took to social media to congratulate the state leadership and workers. Amit Shah described the victory as “the people’s blessings” on the vision of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He extended his wishes to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
Nitin Gadkari credited the win to the dedicated party workers and the public’s faith in “development-oriented functioning.”
Road to Municipal Polls
This victory is seen as a crucial litmus test before the high-stakes municipal corporation elections. While the Mahayuti celebrated overall dominance, the elections weren’t without localized upsets. Notably, the BJP faced a setback in Loha, where six members of a prominent family lost their seats to the Sharad Pawar-led NCP.
Despite these minor hurdles, the overall result reinforces the Mahayuti’s grip on Maharashtra’s political landscape, setting a challenging stage for the MVA in the months to come.
