Satara, Maharashtra: Police think that a 28-year-old woman doctor who worked at a government hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara district killed herself late Thursday night in a hotel room. A horrifying detail came to light when detectives found a note scribbled on her hand in which she accused two police officers of rape and long-term mental abuse.
The Satara Police say that a case has been opened and that the doctor’s body has been sent for an autopsy. An source told media, “We are also looking into the claims made in the suicide note that was found on the victim’s hand.”
CM Fadnavis Tells Officers to Take Action Against the Accused
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also in charge of the Home department, talked to high-ranking police officers soon after the incident came to light. He told them to suspend the two policemen identified in the message right away.
“We have opened a case and sent the deceased for an autopsy. “The claims made in the suicide note are being looked into,” said Tushar Doshi, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Satara. He further added that both officers who are implicated are presently on the run.
Rape and harassment claims
The dead doctor’s handwritten note said that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane had raped and sexually harassed her several times over the preceding five months. She also implicated Prashant Bankar, another police officer, saying that he harassed her mentally.
Rupali Chakankar, the head of the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, said that the panel is aware of the matter and has told the Satara Police to take quick and strict action against the offenders.
Chakankar added, “We have told the police to take strong action and make sure the victim gets justice.”
Allegations of Pressure to Change Postmortem Reports
Family members said that the doctor had been forced to lie on official postmortem findings. The victim’s cousin told ANI,
“There was a lot of pressure from the police and politicians on her to write false death reports. She attempted to voice her discontent. My sister needs to get what she deserves.
Relatives also said that she had been under a lot of stress at work, which may have made her mental health worse.
Family Says There Was Harassment at Work
The victim’s aunts informed the news that she had told them that older people at work were bothering her.
“She was smart and had big dreams. We reared her from a young age and helped her go to school. She did this because she was under a lot of stress at work. One of her aunts replied, “The people who did this should be punished.”
Another person said,
“She just told me two days ago that seniors at work were bothering her.”
An investigation is going underway.
SP Tushar Doshi said that Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar are being charged with rape and helping someone kill themselves.
Police teams are looking for both cops, who have been put on leave.
Doshi told reporters, “There will be a full investigation and strict action.”
The case has sent shockwaves across the state and brought up old arguments about workplace harassment, misuse of authority, and the mental health problems that medical professionals confront when they are under a lot of stress.
