Maha Kumbh In Prayagraj: A Spiritual Gathering Of Millions At Triveni Sangam

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: The Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj continues to draw millions of devotees from across the globe, celebrating Sanatan Dharma and the pursuit of spiritual purity. On Tuesday, Patanjali Ayurved’s Managing Director Acharya Balkrishna praised the event as the pride of Sanatan and encouraged people to focus on internal purity.

Speaking to media, Balkrishna said, “Maha Kumbh is a pride of Sanatan. With a holy dip at Triveni, we pray for happiness and to get rid of worldly and transcendental sorrow. All should enjoy this festival and should focus on internal purity.”

As per the Uttar Pradesh Information Department, over 4.55 million people, including 1 million Kalpawasis, took a holy dip at the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers on Tuesday morning. Since the event began on January 13, over 150 million devotees have participated in the ritual.

Tomorrow marks Mauni Amavasya, a significant day for the Second Shahi Snan, where an estimated 80 to 100 million people are expected to attend. Other key bathing dates include February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

Devotees praised the arrangements despite the massive crowds. “It is natural to be excited as this event is happening after 144 years. The arrangements here are good. There is no stampede-like situation despite the large crowd,” one devotee said.

Another attendee lauded the Uttar Pradesh government for ensuring smooth operations. “It is a magnificent experience. The facilities at the ghat are good, and I didn’t face any trouble,” he said.

The event has seen visits from prominent leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on Monday, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and spiritual leaders like Baba Ramdev.

The Maha Kumbh also welcomed international visitors like Antonio from Italy, fulfilling his decade-long dream of experiencing the Kumbh Mela. “I feel fantastic. There’s a lot of blessings in this place,” Antonio said, sharing his admiration for India’s spiritual heritage. Esther from Spain described the event as initially overwhelming but ultimately transformative, saying, “I’m feeling great right now.”

Held every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh Mela is a historic religious congregation where pilgrims take a holy dip at the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers—believed to absolve sins and grant moksha (liberation). This year’s event, running from January 13 to February 26, is expected to host over 450 million visitors, marking a monumental spiritual occasion for India.
