Maha Kumbh 2025: Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Highlights Preparations For Makar Sankranti Shahi Snan

The Maha Kumbh 2025, which commenced on Paush Purnima (January 13), witnessed a grand turnout of around 15 million devotees on its opening day, as shared by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The first Shahi Snan is set to take place on Makar Sankranti (January 14), promising to be an even larger event.

Extensive Preparations for Devotees and Tourists

Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh emphasized the government’s extensive preparations to ensure a seamless experience for devotees and tourists attending the Maha Kumbh.

Speaking to media, Singh said:
“The ‘Snan’ on Makar Sankranti will be bigger than today’s ‘Snan’. The state government, in collaboration with the fair administration, has been preparing for the Maha Kumbh for one and a half years.”

Singh added that infrastructure and facility improvements worth approximately ₹7,000 crores have been undertaken in Prayagraj city and the Mela area, which spans 4,000 hectares.
“Our intention was to provide the best possible facilities for tourists and devotees, ensuring they have a memorable experience of the Maha Kumbh.”

Maha Kumbh: A Gathering of Faith

On the opening day, CM Yogi Adityanath expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the event’s success, stating on X (formerly Twitter):
“On the first bathing festival today, 1.50 crore Sanatan believers took a bath in the pious Triveni and accrued ‘punya’ benefit.”

The Maha Kumbh, celebrated every 12 years at one of four locations in India, is a testament to India’s spiritual and cultural heritage. The Poorna Kumbh 2025 will continue until February 26, with key bathing festivals, including:

  • Makar Sankranti: January 14 (First Shahi Snan)
  • Mauni Amavasya: January 29 (Second Shahi Snan)
  • Basant Panchami: February 3 (Third Shahi Snan)
  • Maghi Purnima: February 12
  • Maha Shivaratri: February 26

The monumental efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government ensure that the Maha Kumbh remains a blend of tradition, spirituality, and world-class organization.
