Madhya Pradesh: 25 Transgenders Hospitalised After Consuming ‘Phenyl’

A shocking incident was reported late on Wednesday in Indore, where approximately 25 individuals from the transgender community were admitted to a government hospital after allegedly consuming ‘phenyl.’

Hospital officials confirmed the mass admission while stating that the exact substance consumed is yet to be definitively confirmed, and the motive behind the action is currently under police investigation.

Hospital Confirms Admissions

Dr. Basant Kumar Ningwal, Superintendent-in-Charge of the government-run Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH), stated, “Around 25 people from the transgender community have been admitted to our hospital. They have claimed to have consumed phenyl together, but this cannot be immediately confirmed.”

Dr. Ningwal, as quoted by the news agency PTI, also provided a reassuring update on the patients’ health, confirming, “None of the patients was in a critical condition.

Police Investigate Motive

The reason for the mass ingestion by the transgender individuals remains undetermined, and authorities have launched an investigation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya confirmed that a full investigation is needed to clarify the details. “Only after investigation will it become clear as to what substance the transgender community people had consumed, and why,” Dandotiya said.

However, another police officer suggested a possible link, stating that the incident could be connected to a conflict between two local transgender groups.

The investigation is ongoing as police seek to determine the circumstances and motive behind this alarming mass-ingestion incident.
