Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: As Holi festivities approach, a jewellery shop in Lucknow has introduced a unique offering — silver Pichkaris (water guns) and small silver buckets, priced up to ₹1 lakh.
Jeweller Adesh Kumar Jain explained that gifting silver Pichkaris is a traditional practice in some families, where the bride’s family presents the item to the groom’s family as a symbolic pledge.
“This is an old tradition in which the bride’s family gifts the silver Pichkari to the groom’s family,” Jain told ANI. “Prices range from ₹8,000 to ₹1 lakh depending on the design and craftsmanship.”
This year’s collection is particularly special, featuring intricate carvings, meenakari work, and stone inlays, which have received high praise from customers.
“The response has been fantastic,” Jain added. “So far, at least 1,000 Pichkaris have been sold in Lucknow. Since we operate a wholesale business, many shopkeepers have purchased from us to resell. I believe this tradition will grow even more popular in the coming years.”
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, a sweet shop has unveiled the luxurious ‘Golden Gujiya’, priced at ₹50,000 per kilogram or ₹1,300 per piece.
Shop manager Shivakant Chaturvedi shared the inspiration behind this extravagant sweet, stating, “Our ‘Golden Gujiya’ has a layer of 24-carat gold and a special dry fruit filling. Both gold and silver are edible, making this Gujiya a rare delicacy.”
Traditional Gujiyas are typically filled with khoya, nuts, and dried fruits, but this exclusive version’s golden layer makes it stand out with its shimmering appeal.
With Holi just around the corner, these festive innovations — from lavish silver Pichkaris to the opulent Golden Gujiya — are adding a touch of tradition and luxury to celebrations.
