Lieutenant Colonel Among Two Soldiers Killed In Tragic Ladakh Rockfall Incident

LEH, LADAKH – A huge rock fell on a military vehicle on Wednesday, in eastern Ladakh, killing a Lieutenant Colonel and one soldier and hurting three more officials. The sad tragedy happened close to Durbuk, which is in the eastern section of the Union Territory and is hard to get to because of its geography.

Around 11:30 AM (IST), the Indian Army confirmed the deaths and injuries. The rockfall happened as the truck was part of a military convoy heading from Durbuk to Chongtash across dangerous alpine terrain.

The Army’s Fire and Fury Corps, also called the White Knight Corps, were the first to disseminate information about the catastrophe on X (previously Twitter). “A boulder from a cliff fell on one of the vehicles of a military convoy in Ladakh at about 11:30 a.m. on July 30, 2025,” their post said. Action to help is going on.

Later in the day, the Fire and Fury Corps released a statement saying how sad they were about the deaths of their members: “GOC, Fire and Fury Corps and All Ranks salute Lieutenant Colonel Bhanu Pratap Singh and Lance Dafadar Daljeet Singh, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in #Ladakh on 30 Jul 2025 and offer deep condolences to the families of the deceased in this hour of grief.”

The three hurt officers, two of whom were Majors and one of whom was a Captain, were given medical attention almost away and then moved to an Army hospital in Leh for more care. A full rescue effort began right once when the boulder hit the car.

Military convoys face a lot of risks when they go through the Durbuk area, which is known for its tough high-altitude terrain, bad roads, and landslides and rockfalls. This event shows how dangerous it is for soldiers to be in such harsh surroundings, even when they aren’t fighting.

An inquiry has begun to find out what caused the tragedy, including whether any geological instability or other forces played a role in the rockfall. The bodies of the servicemen who died are being readied for shipment to their hometowns with full military honors.
