Lovlina Borgohain And Nikhat Zareen Lead India’s Charge At Inaugural World Boxing Championships

India is sending a strong 20-member team to the first World Boxing Championships. Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain and top boxer Nikhat Zareen are in charge. The tournament that everyone has been looking forward to will start on Thursday, September 4, in Liverpool, England.

World Boxing, the sport’s new worldwide regulatory organization, is putting on these championships for the first time ever. Over 550 boxers from more than 65 countries will compete for medals in 20 weight classes—10 for men and 10 for women—at the M&S Bank Arena till September 14. There are 17 medalists from the Paris 2024 Olympics in the field.

Borgohain and Zareen are both coming back to the international ring for the first time since they fought at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Borgohain will battle in the 75kg class, and Zareen will fight in the 51kg class. In the 80kg weight class, the Indian team also include other well-known athletes, such as Olympian Pooja Rani.

Narender Berwal (90+kg), who won a bronze medal at the Asian Games, and Hitesh Gulia (70kg) and Abhinash Jamwal (65kg), who won gold medals at the World Boxing Cup, are two important boxers to watch.

The championships will be in a knockout style, and any semi-finalist who doesn’t make it to the final will get a bronze medal. There will be three three-minute rounds in each fight, and the “Ten Point Must” scoring system will be used to judge them. The quarter-finals will be on September 10, the semi-finals on September 12 and 13, and the finals on September 14, when 20 new world champions will be crowned.
