Following a scuffle during parallel protests at the Parliament premises, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has issued strict instructions barring political parties, MPs, or groups from holding demonstrations or dharnas at the gates of Parliament House, sources revealed.
This directive comes after members of the ruling BJP and the INDIA Bloc staged protests on Thursday morning. The BJP MPs were protesting against Congress for allegedly “insulting” Babasaheb Ambedkar, while the INDIA Bloc, led by Rahul Gandhi, demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on Ambedkar.
Injuries During Scuffle
Amid the demonstrations, tensions escalated into a scuffle, leaving two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, injured. Both were admitted to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment.
BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Disruption
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticized Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of intentionally causing disruptions during the BJP’s protest at the Makar Dwar entrance.
“Security personnel had advised Rahul Gandhi to use an alternative route to avoid interfering with our protest, but he insisted on entering through the main area, causing a disturbance,” Chouhan said during a press conference at BJP headquarters.
He further accused Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi of arrogance and “hooliganism,” stating, “What I saw in Parliament today was unimaginable—arrogance and hooliganism.”
Rahul Gandhi Denounces BJP’s Tactics
In a joint press conference with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi alleged that BJP MPs deliberately obstructed the Opposition’s efforts to raise key issues in Parliament, including Amit Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar and the Adani controversy.
“BJP MPs tried to stop us while we were entering Parliament. This is nothing but a tactic to divert attention from the Adani issue and Amit Shah’s insulting remarks about BR Ambedkar,” Gandhi said.
Speaker’s Directive
To maintain order, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla instructed all parties to avoid protests at Parliament gates. The directive aims to prevent such disruptions in the future and ensure smooth parliamentary proceedings.
