New Delhi (India), December 6: The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned until 12 pm on Friday, marking the ninth consecutive day of disruptions during the winter session. Opposition members continued raising slogans and protesting over various contentious issues, leading to the disruption of the session.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla made a passionate appeal for order and cooperation, urging members to maintain the dignity and decorum of Parliament. Despite his repeated calls for cooperation, the protests continued, prompting Birla to adjourn the session. “Do you want the question hour to continue?” Birla asked the members amidst the chaos, further asserting, “The House will follow the decorum, dignity, and high standards. Neither will the dignity fall inside the House, nor will the decorum be diminished.”
The session, which had already faced multiple interruptions, was adjourned until 12 noon after Birla’s appeal. The disruptions are largely due to opposition parties demanding debates on various issues, with particular focus on the Adani controversy.
Meanwhile, opposition MPs, including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held a protest outside Parliament, demanding discussion on the Adani matter. The MPs wore masks with the message “Modi Adani, Bhai Bhai” and held copies of the Constitution in their hands, symbolizing their opposition to the alleged violations related to the Adani Group.
Congress MP KC Venugopal emphasized that the constitutional rights of the public had been violated regarding the Adani issue. He explained, “It is BR Ambedkar’s death anniversary, the person who gave us the Constitution. The constitutional right has been violated here for Adani.”
Congress MP Manickam Tagore demanded action against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for allegedly using defamatory language against Rahul Gandhi in Parliament. He also raised concerns about the Adani controversy, accusing the government of trying to divert attention from the issue.
Both houses of Parliament have witnessed frequent disruptions during this winter session, especially with the opposition’s calls for a discussion on the Adani matter. The Adani Group has denied all allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission, stating that the charges are baseless and that they uphold the highest standards of governance and compliance.
The winter session, which began on November 25, will continue until December 20.
