Shame In Lucknow Rail Division: Loco Pilot Undresses Before Senior Officer To Prove Unhealed Surgery Wounds

LUCKNOW — In a shocking breach of workplace dignity within the Indian Railways, a loco pilot was forced to undress in a government office to prove he was medically unfit for duty. On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA) revealed that Rajesh Meena, a loco pilot belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community, took the desperate step after his requests for extended sick leave following piles surgery were repeatedly shot down by senior officials.

The incident, captured on video by colleagues, has sparked widespread outrage among railway employees, highlighting what the union calls a “systemic disregard for human life.”

1. A Week of Agony: The Timeline of Events

Rajesh Meena’s ordeal began long before the confrontation in the Lucknow Division:

  • The Surgery: After battling chronic piles, Meena underwent surgery on February 22, 2026, in Lucknow.
  • Initial Leave: He was granted leave from Feb 22 to Feb 28. However, by the end of the week, his wounds had not healed, making it impossible for him to sit for the long hours required in a locomotive cabin.
  • The “Sick Memo” Hurdle: Meena followed the official protocol by visiting the Railway Health Unit. The doctor there reportedly found his condition genuine but informed him that he needed a “sick memo” from his department—the Chief Crew Controller (CCC)—to formalize the leave extension.

2. The Confrontation with CCC Ratan Kumar

According to AILRSA leaders, Meena presented exhaustive proof of his condition to CCC Ratan Kumar, including:

  • Lab reports (CBC, Glucose, and Hepatitis screening).
  • Medical prescriptions and hospital discharge papers.
  • Even the blood-stained bandages and dressings he was using at home.

Despite this, the union claims Kumar remained unconvinced. In a state of “discernible stress” and physical pain, Meena eventually undressed to show the unhealed surgical wounds on his private parts. Even after this humiliating display, the CCC reportedly refused the leave.

3. Union Response and Action Taken

The deadlock was only broken after Meena approached a union leader from his community, who escalated the matter to higher-ranking divisional officers.

  • Leave Granted: Meena was finally granted the necessary rest period following the intervention of senior-most officials.
  • Demand for Accountability: The AILRSA has demanded strict disciplinary action against CCC Ratan Kumar for his “inhumane and insensitive” behavior.
  • The Secretary General’s Quote: “It is so shameful that a loco pilot has to take off his pants… is this the kind of treatment we should expect from the Railway administration?” asked K.C. James, Secretary General, AILRSA.
