Comedian and TV host Lilly Singh is joining the cast of Netflix’s highly anticipated coming-of-age movie, Best of the Best. Comedians Hasan Minhaj and Prashanth Venkataramanujam wrote the movie, which is about the high-stakes world of competitive Bollywood dancing. Minhaj will also feature in the movie.
Best of the Best is about two childhood friends who decide to join their college’s Bollywood dance team. At first, it looks like a pleasant way to learn about their culture, but as they follow the dream of winning a national championship, it quickly turns into a tough and difficult trip. The movie will show the lively spirit of the Bollywood Fusion Dance culture that has evolved on college campuses. It will be about friendship, cultural identity, and the struggles of early adulthood.
A wide range of excellent actors will be working with Lilly Singh. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from Never Have I Ever and Priyanka Kedia are two of the stars who have already been named. Ramakrishnan will play one of the roles. Variety says that the new cast members are Ankur Rathee (Four More Shots Please), Chaneil Kular (Sex Education), Shreya Navile, Becky Alex, Janina Gavankar, Nihar Duvvuri, Nico Greetham, Saara Chaudry, Amryn Khurana, Tanishq Joshi, and Sasha Bhasin.
Lena Khan directed the movie. She had worked with Maitreyi Ramakrishnan before on the Netflix blockbuster series Never Have I Ever. 186k Films, which is owned by Hasan Minhaj and Prashanth Venkataramanujam, is also making the Netflix original.
