May 15, 2025 : Emmy-nominated actress Lili Taylor has officially joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the highly anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel, according to Variety. Taylor will portray Mags, a former Hunger Games victor who later serves as a mentor. The role was previously played by Lynn Cohen in Catching Fire.
Taylor will join a star-studded ensemble that includes Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee.
Set twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, Sunrise on the Reaping begins on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. The film is slated for release on November 20, 2026, with Francis Lawrence returning to direct from a screenplay by Billy Ray.
Beyond the world of Panem, Taylor is set to appear in the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again and Netflix’s upcoming Fear Street: Prom Queen. She is also reportedly in talks to join the Amazon mystery drama Outer Range.
In addition to her acting career, Taylor recently debuted as an author with Turning to Birds, a reflective memoir celebrating her passion for birding and finding peace through nature.
