A cricket match in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, turned tragic when a 30-year-old participant, identified as Ravindra Ahirwar, suddenly collapsed on the field and died shortly after. The incident occurred on Friday at the Government Inter College (GIC) ground in Jhansi district.
Ahirwar, a resident of Nalganj in the Sipri Bazaar area, was employed as a Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) development officer.
Sudden Onset of Illness
Ravindra was actively participating in the match and was in the middle of a bowling spell when he suddenly felt uneasy and unwell. He took a break from the game to catch his breath and drink some water. However, witnesses recalled that immediately after drinking, he began to vomit and then suddenly fell unconscious.
His stunned teammates initially suspected dehydration but quickly realized the severity of the situation when Ahirwar remained unresponsive. According to NDTV, he was immediately rushed to a hospital, but doctors tragically declared him dead on arrival.
Family: ‘Perfect Health’ Morning
The sudden demise has shocked his family, who stated that Ravindra was in “perfect health” on the morning of his death.
His brother, Arvind, recounted the morning’s events to media, saying, “This morning, after a long time, he woke up early and had tea with his father. After saying goodbye to his father, he went to the GIC ground to play cricket. About an hour after his departure, they learned that his health had deteriorated.”
Arvind further noted that Ravindra had been an LIC development officer for two years and was deeply passionate about both his career and playing cricket.
Suspected Cause of Death
While the exact cause of the untimely death remains unknown, a medical expert has suggested a possible cause. Dr. Sachin Mahor, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, indicated that the death could be due to a cardiac arrest. He added, however, that the definitive cause can only be determined after a full autopsy is conducted.
