Washington, US – June 17: Paramount Pictures has officially released the first trailer for the much-anticipated reboot of the iconic 1980s comedy ‘The Naked Gun’, set to hit theaters on August 1.
In a bold and humorous revival, Liam Neeson steps into the role of Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the original bumbling detective Frank Drebin, famously portrayed by Leslie Nielsen. The reboot brings back the slapstick brilliance that made the original trilogy a cult classic, while introducing a fresh storyline for new and old fans alike.
Directed by Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping), the film blends high-energy physical comedy with sharp modern satire. The screenplay is penned by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, and Schaffer himself, ensuring that the tone remains loyal to the legacy of the franchise.
Joining Neeson in this star-studded cast are:
- Pamela Anderson, returning to the big screen in a major comedic role,
- Paul Walter Hauser, portraying the son of Captain Ed Hocken (originally played by George Kennedy),
- CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Danny Huston, and Eddie Yu.
Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy and Ted, is also on board as a producer, bringing his trademark comedy style to the film.
The original Naked Gun trilogy, which began in 1988 with The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, followed by The Smell of Fear (1991) and The Final Insult (1994), grossed over $216 million worldwide and remains one of the most beloved comedy franchises in Hollywood history.
