Left Parties Condemn US Strikes On Iran, Call It ‘Grave Violation’ Of Sovereignty And UN Charter

New Delhi [India], June 23: Five major Left parties in India on Sunday issued a strong joint statement condemning the US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, calling it a “grave violation of Iranian sovereignty” and a breach of the United Nations Charter.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, CPI (Marxist-Leninist Liberation), Revolutionary Socialist Party, and Forward Bloc jointly declared that the attack would escalate global tensions, destabilize West Asia, and lead to severe economic consequences, particularly for oil-dependent countries like India.

“This is a grave violation of Iranian sovereignty and the UN Charter, and it will inflame global tensions, destabilise West Asia, and have severe economic repercussions,” the statement said.

The Left leaders criticised the justification given by the US and Israel, who cited Iran’s alleged push toward developing a nuclear weapon. They highlighted that both the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and US intelligence agencies had not found any conclusive evidence that Iran was pursuing nuclear arms.

The IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi, on June 19, stated:

“We did not have any proof of a systematic effort to move into a nuclear weapon.”

The joint statement further alleged that the US-Israel airstrikes were not motivated by security concerns, but rather by a desire to sabotage diplomacy and impose a new wave of imperialist dominance in the region.

“This makes it evident that the real intention is to destroy Iran, establish imperialist hegemony over West Asia, and control the global flow of resources,” it said.

Drawing parallels with the Iraq invasion in 2003, the statement warned that this could lead to a humanitarian and economic disaster, particularly for developing nations like India, which depend heavily on Gulf oil supplies and migrant employment.

The Left leaders also criticised India’s foreign policy posture, urging the Modi government to abandon its pro-US, pro-Israel stance and instead support global peace efforts.

“We call upon all our units to immediately organise protest actions against this act of imperialist aggression and urge all peace-loving people of our country to join us in condemning the US attack.”

The joint statement was signed by:

  • MA Baby – General Secretary, CPI(M)
  • D Raja – General Secretary, CPI
  • Dipankar Bhattacharya – General Secretary, CPI (ML) Liberation
  • Manoj Bhattacharya – General Secretary, RSP
  • Devarajan – General Secretary, Forward Bloc
