National Herald Row: Law Minister Arjun Meghwal Slams Congress Over ED Protests, Alleges Vandalism

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday accused Congress workers of damaging public property while protesting the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) recent chargesheet naming Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi as accused in the National Herald money laundering case.

Speaking at a press conference in Udaipur, Meghwal emphasized that the ED is functioning independently, and dismissed the Congress protests as a “pressure tactic.”

“The ED was created during the Congress regime. Now, their own people are protesting outside ED offices, damaging government property. This isn’t how democracy works. If they have objections, they should approach the court,” Meghwal said.

Congress Launches Nationwide Protest

The Congress, meanwhile, has announced a nationwide media campaign“Congress Truths, BJP Lies” — to counter the chargesheet, which it calls politically motivated.

Pawan Khera, Chairman of the AICC Media & Publicity Department, termed the ED’s move:

“An anti-national effort to erase the legacy of the National Herald, a symbol of India’s freedom movement.”

The party plans to hold press conferences in 57 cities from April 21 to 27, defending its leaders and alleging misuse of central agencies by the BJP government.

Legal and Political Fallout

The ED’s prosecution complaint, filed on April 15, escalates the long-running National Herald case that centers around alleged financial irregularities linked to Associated Journals Ltd. (AJL) and Young Indian, a company controlled by the Gandhis.

Meghwal reiterated:

“Just because you’re a prominent politician doesn’t mean you’re above the law. Law applies equally to Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and every citizen.

As political temperatures rise, all eyes are on how the courts will respond — and how public opinion will shift amid the intensifying war of narratives between the Congress and BJP.
