Chapra (Bihar) [India]: The last rites of BSF Sub Inspector Mohammed Imteyaz, who was martyred on May 10 during cross-border shelling by Pakistan in the RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir, were performed on Sunday with full state and military honours in his native village Narayanpur, located in Saran district, Bihar.
Prominent political leaders, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, paid heartfelt tributes to the fallen soldier.
Tejashwi Yadav visited the grieving family and acknowledged the bravery and service of Sub Inspector Imteyaz, stating:
“We have paid tribute to Bihar’s son Mohammad Imtiaz. He was martyred in the service of the country. I met his son and will visit the family again. We salute the Indian Army for giving a befitting reply to Pakistan.”
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also expressed his condolences on social media platform X, writing:
“Salute to BSF Sub Inspector Mohammad Imtiaz Ji, a resident of Narayanpur village, who was martyred in firing by the Pakistan Army. The country will always remember his sacrifice. Deep condolences to his family.”
He further announced that the state government would provide an honorarium to the martyr’s next of kin and oversee the performance of his last rites with full police honours.
On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid his final respects and met the bereaved family, acknowledging Imteyaz’s service and sacrifice on behalf of the nation.
The martyrdom comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Indian officials confirmed that Pakistan violated a ceasefire agreement reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) earlier the same day.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated in a press briefing:
“This is a serious breach of the understanding reached today. India takes note of these violations and calls upon Pakistan to act responsibly.”
The sacrifice of Sub Inspector Imteyaz has been widely mourned across the nation, with tributes pouring in for the brave soldier who laid down his life in defence of the country.
